I love to decorate the covers of my art journals.

Magenta Journal Cover

I used masking tape to protect the edges of my journal cover and create a crisp frame. First, I painted a coat of gesso and then applied acrylic paint in light blue and green. Before the paint dried I used a baby wipe to remove paint through the Wavy Texture stencil. Much of this gets covered up with more layers, but does create texture in the final result.

I then stamped the Swirls Background stamp in several areas.

I added several more layers of different colors of paint through both of the Bubble Path Duo stencils with a sponge.

I used the Alpha stencil from the Alpha and Number Duo Stencil set to create the title. I masked off individual letters, one at a time, and used a brush to add paint through the stencil.

When the paint was thoroughly dry, I stamped the Hearts Flowers image. I painted the inner portion of the hearts, leaves and stems with gesso, then acrylic paint.

M7

I used a permanent marker to outline the image. I carefully removed the tape and sealed the cover with a spray fixative.

I love having the outside of my journals reflect the joy I get from creating in them.
