I definitely have Spring fever! I am so over winter.
I want to share with you how I created these colorful flowers for my journal pages, using Dylusions acrylic paints and rubbing alcohol.
First, gesso mixed media paper. When dry, spritz the page with water. On a palette, add water to Lemon Zest paint, so it is rather thin and spread over the page. Load a pipette with alcohol and drip in spots on the page. Dry thoroughly, then apply a thin coat of matte medium.
Once dry, add another layer of water thinned paint in Peony Blush, add drips of alcohol as before.
Apply a coat of matte medium and add a third color of paint in Periwinkle Blue. Continue to follow the previous steps, to add 2 more layers of color in Lemon Zest and Peony Blush, finish with a coat of matte medium. When thoroughly dry, stamp Poppies several times on the page with Jet Black Archival ink, then fussy cut the flowers and leaves. Don’t be concerned if the image doesn’t stamp perfectly, as the lines can be darkened later with a permanent black marker.
Paint the background of your journal page with Peony Blush, using a foam applicator. Add splatters with white paint. Stamp the I Dream.. sentiment with Deep Purple Archival ink. Stamp the Poppies in three places on the page, altering the height each time. Darken stems as needed with a permanent black marker, extending them off the page, if necessary. Glue your fussy cut flowers and leaves to the page.

I will be teaching this technique on March 17th in Palmer, MA. Please see Class Schedule for details.
