Tranquil Tuesday with Jane – Magenta Design Team Post

I have created an art journal spread that, to me, is reminiscent of pages in a vintage botanical encyclopedia.

Magenta 9-18

I started by collaging pieces of vintage papers and book text coating them with clear gesso. Then colored the entire spread with Distress Inks. Next I sponged Distress Inks through the Leafy Tree and the Large Foliage stencils. I added some outlines with pen and more color to the Leafy Tree with paint pens. I splattered Distress Stain on the pages. Then I stamped the Life is Beautiful sentiment in several places on the spread, but heat embossed the one near the base of the tree so it would be more prominent.

Some intuitive collage, painting and stamping today, as I really did not know where I was going with this art journal page when I started.

Magenta 9-11-18

I collaged some previously painted and crumpled deli paper onto an 8″ x 5 1/4″ piece of watercolor paper with matte medium, then covered it with clear gesso. I used chalk paint through the Field of Flowers and Feathers stencils to add more visual texture. I stamped and heat embossed the Sparrow Sketch and Large Feather, then painted all around the images, excluding the background. I used a white pen through the Raindrops stencil then painted each raindrop individually. I then stamped and heat embossed the Kindness sentiment and finally, I inked around the edges of the page.

Today I created an art journal page using a stamp and stencil from the new release.

Magenta 9-4-18

I applied texture paste through the corner of the Square Lace Stencil in three places on watercolor paper. I colored the page with Liquitex fluid acrylic inks in quinacridone magenta and deep violet. I applied it with a dropper to the edges of the page and then spritzed with water, tipping the page, allowing the ink to flow across the page. I stamped the Poinsettia Corner in the center, then used a small detail brush to paint it with fluid acrylic inks in titanium white, vivid lime green and deep violet. I replaced the Square Lace Stencil over the pasted areas and sponged deep violet over these areas. I inked the edges of the page with a permanent black marker and attached it in my journal.

Art journal page with some of the new Magenta stamps!

I heat embossed the flowers, leaves and sentiment with gold. The flowers were cut from a separate piece of mixed media weight paper and attached to the page. It was difficult to capture in the photo all the shimmer in the flowers created with Twinkling H2Os. I used Nuance powder to create the splash of background color.

Today, I am sharing a tag with a sentiment that is close to my heart, as I often try push myself to try new things and venture out of my comfort zone.

I colored the tag with Salty Ocean and Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Inks. I lightly spritzed water on the Flourish stamp and placed it on the tag, dabbing the water off with a paper towel to remove the ink. I repeated the process several times on the tag, cleaning the stamp each time so I would not transfer colors. I used Jet Black Archival Ink to stamp the sentiment and Garden Birdhouse. I stamped the birdhouse again on another piece of mixed media paper, fussy cut the house portion and adhered it to the tag. I colored it with Fired Brick Distress Oxide Ink.

Life Is Beautiful – Magenta DT Post

Today, I am sharing another art journal page.

After masking off the edges of the page, I used a foam applicator to apply Dylusions paints in Vanilla Custard and Blushing Peony. I stamped the Calligraphic Bird with Versafine Ink and added white detail embossing powder. I inked the Swirly Leaves and Flourish stamps with Faber-Castell Pitt Pens in Middle Purple Pink and Orange Glaze and stamped them in a few places on the page. I used the same pens to add color to the bird and swirls. I stamped the sentiment with Violet Archival Ink.

Art Journal Cover – Magenta DT Post

I love to decorate the covers of my art journals.

Magenta Journal Cover

I used masking tape to protect the edges of my journal cover and create a crisp frame. First, I painted a coat of gesso and then applied acrylic paint in light blue and green. Before the paint dried I used a baby wipe to remove paint through the Wavy Texture stencil. Much of this gets covered up with more layers, but does create texture in the final result.

I then stamped the Swirls Background stamp in several areas.

M2

I added several more layers of different colors of paint through both of the Bubble Path Duo stencils with a sponge.

M5

I used the Alpha stencil from the Alpha and Number Duo Stencil set to create the title. I masked off individual letters, one at a time, and used a brush to add paint through the stencil.

M6

When the paint was thoroughly dry, I stamped the Hearts Flowers image. I painted the inner portion of the hearts, leaves and stems with gesso, then acrylic paint.

M7

I used a permanent marker to outline the image. I carefully removed the tape and sealed the cover with a spray fixative.

I love having the outside of my journals reflect the joy I get from creating in them.

Color My World – Magenta DT Post

I love using bright, happy colors in my art journal, especially during the warmer days of Spring and Summer.

Magenta Post 6-16-18

I placed the mask of the Round Shape Stencil on the page to protect the area from getting color on that portion. I sprinkled Nuance powder onto an acrylic block and “smooshed” it onto the page, first with Cerulean Blue, then with Purple and allowed it to dry thoroughly.

I removed the mask and painted the circle shape. First with Bright Yellow, then adding Golden Yellow to the left edge, lifting the journal to let it drip towards the center of the circle.

20180612_112438

Once dry, I stamped the Wild Rose image with Jet Black Archival Ink. I applied bleach with a small brush to the stamped area to remove the color. When the bleach had whitened the area, I applied water to those areas and blotted with a paper towel to remove the bleach from the page. I then used Nuance powders as watercolors to paint the flower and leaves.

20180612_114618

After drying thoroughly, I used a fine tip Micron pen to retrace the lines in the stamped image, as some had faded during the bleaching process.

20180612_121606

I stamped the Bee and “See the World…” sentiment and added some sketchy lines around the circle and as a border on the page.
